These figures of the 268 popes who are successor of St. Peter to Pius IX were carved on coral by engravers of Torre del Greco (near Naples) which is the specialty. On the occasion of the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in September 2008, the association Maurice de Sully has donated to the Cathedral the effigy of the ten following popes, including Benedict XVI (photo), who is the work of the goldsmith Goudji Red and engraver Pierre Rouge-Pullon.
