Site 10: Juno Beach - Courseulles sur Mer : Site where General de Gaulle, Winston Churchill, Eisenhower and King George VI landed. Between Ver sur Mer and Saint Aubin sur Mer, Juno Beach is the landing area of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, commanded by General Keller. June 6, 1944 , 7 pm 45, amphibious tanks of the 1st Hussars are put to sea three kilometers from the coast. Many sink because of the swell but those who approach the beach immediately opened fire on the German positions and allow the 7th Brigade lead faster and freeing Courseulles sur Mer in a few hours. On the evening of June 6, 21 500 men and 3200 vehicles have landed on Juno Beach. Then Winston Churchill arrived here on June 12 (photo 60), Charles De Gaulle on 14 (photo 61), Dwight Eisenhower on 15 (photo 62) and King George VI on 16 (photo 63, here in 1943 with General De Gaulle ). Symbolizing Free France, the Cross of Lorraine is 18 meters high. Photo 64: Queen Elizabeth 1st (the Queen Mother) visits paratroopers May 19, 1944, just before Operation Overlord.
