Site 1 : Omaha Beach - Saint Laurent sur Mer - Vierville sur Mer : Omaha Beach est la plage du debarquement de Normandie qui a provoque le plus lourd bilan des pertes du Jour J (30 % du total des pertes du 6 juin) et elle partage avec Juno Beach, le taux de perte le plus fort avec pres de 8 % des effectifs debarques dont beaucoup par noyade. 1 000 Americains sont tues et 2 000 blesses sur Omaha (le bilan precis reste inconnu), 90 % des hommes de la premiere vague etant tues ou blesses. L'histoire retient le surnom de Bloody Omaha (Omaha, la sanglante) que des films celebres comme Le jour le plus long ou Il faut sauver le soldat Ryan ont mis en scene. Longue de huit kilometres, la zone de debarquement s'etendait de Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes a l'est jusqu'a Vierville-sur-Mer a l'ouest. L'objectif a Omaha etait de s'emparer et, ensuite, de tenir une tete de pont de huit kilometres de profondeur entre Port-en-Bessin et la Vire et, des que possible, de faire la jonction a l'est avec les Britanniques et a l'ouest avec le VII Corps americain debarque a Utah Beach afin d'etablir une tete de pont continue sur la cote normande.
Le 5 juin à la nuit tombée, 24 feux d'artifices seront tirés simultanément depuis Utah Beach jusqu'à à Sword Beach pour symboliser l'embrasement de la côte et des plages normandes.
Programme prévu des principales commémorations du vendredi 6 juin 2014 à Omaha Beach : Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer :
- 10h00 : Grand rassemblement pour commémorer les sacrifices des soldats. Parade musicale partant du monument Signal.

- 10h00-19h00 : Exposition de maquettes militaires et historiques à la salle des fêtes.

For the 60th anniversary of the landing, Anilore Banon, sculptor has installed a work, "The Braves", located in Omaha sand.
-center, the work entitled "Standing Liberty" commemorates the brave men who stand up and stand against the totalitarisme.Les sails evoke the sea where the liberators arrived.
