The Winter Palace and the Hermitage Museum, south façade. Built for the
tzarina Elizabeth, this sumptuous residence is one of architect Bartolomeo
Rastrelli's (1700-1771) most beautiful works. The construction, which began
in 1754 and ended in 1768 is a superb example of Russian Baroque style.
