Located in the heart of the battlefield, near the destroyed village of Fleury devant Douaumont, the Memorial of Verdun is one of the major European museums of the Great War. Established in 1967 under the direction of writer Maurice Genevoix, veteran of the Eparges battelfield, it is currently undergoing restoration, which should be completed before the centenary celebrations of the Battle of Verdun (2016).
