Fighting in Argonne: Butte of Vauquois: Entrance of French galleries on the south side of the hill. Each camp trying to infiltrate and destroy the enemy galeries by digging tunnels under the tunnels of the opposite camp. In the craters of the hill, about 17 km from wells, tunnels and branches, appointed by the French and German troops to house veterans and feed mine warfare, which reached its climax here: 519 explosions (199 German and 320 French ) there were identified.
