Battles of Artois : The church destroyed and the village of Saint Nazaire Ablain just after the war. Masterpiece of Flamboyant Gothic, the church was built in the sixteenth century by Lord Charles de Bourbon-Carency, anxious to show his gratitude to Saint Nazaire who had contributed to the healing of her daughter. Ablain occupies a strategic position at the foot of the plateau of Notre-Dame de Lorette. In October 1914, the Germans seize it. French troops will constantly reclaim the spur of Notre Dame de Lorette, which is, with Vimy ridge, dominates, from one side Arras, the first town of Artois and the other side Lens and its coal mines.
