A few kilometers east of the Nile, in the middle of a desert plain, rise strange pyramids, with steep edges. Here, in Meroe, in the heart of Sudan, which were buried the kings of the first known civilization of black Africa. At that time, a rich city extends to the river, with religious monuments, shops, crafts (metalworking, jewelry, pottery ..) while the royal cemetery is located at a distance on hills in the desert. At sunrise, general view of the royal tombs in the cemetery north, by far the largest and best preserved.
